Antwerp Maritime Academy

The Antwerp Maritime Academy is the only college in Belgium to offer education in Nautical Sciences and Marine Engineering. Courses are taught both in Dutch and French and lead to a Bachelor or Master Degree in Nautical Science and a Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering. Education at the Antwerp Maritime Academy aims at two careers: one at sea as a merchant marine officer, becoming a long-distance Captain (Master) or a Chief Engineer; the other is an on-shore career in a nautical-economic or nautical-technical function. While other colleges only have to comply within legal regulations at the national level, the courses taught at the Antwerp Maritime Academy meet stringent international and quality-standard requirements set by the IMO (International Maritime Organisation).

Certificates from the Antwerp Maritime Academy are fully compliant with IMO STCW-standards (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). Training highly qualified personnel for the maritime industry requires a specific teaching format, specialised instructional methods and specially adapted equipment. The Antwerp Maritime Academy is especially proud of its well-equipped laboratories and workshops as well as its modern simulators for ship's navigation (and radar), cargo handling, propulsion and telecommunications. The Antwerp Maritime Academy is being developed into a diversified maritime centre of competence, where not only education & training is provided but where the equipment and know-how is placed at the disposal of third parties, where applied scientific research and international projects are carried out.
