Heading home through the Drake
After one month of Antarctic journeying, and having met the Polar Star and sailed a little bit together, the time has come to head north, on the way back home with a stop in Ushuaia.
The Drake welcomes us in its usual way, with 6 to 7 Beaufort and its confused and distinct swell. The Euronav Belgica makes its way looking forward three days ahead with a lot of care. Whereas the next two days seem to be good, it’s quite different for the following day: a storm is coming. We could just be in sheltered waters, the storm could just be a little bit further south. . . that’s what we have to manage over the next days. Happily, we are so well helped by Fritz and Tom, our two meteorological guys. Thanks to them.
